The Hidden Bargain of Internal Developer Platforms
Every Internal Developer Platform carries two price tags: the one on the sales deck, and the one buried in your engineers' calendars.
Notes from the team building the autopilot.
Post-mortems. Benchmarks. The kind of FinOps detail you actually need before you run the migration. One post a week, no fluff.
The Pricing Page Illusion: Why Your Cloud Bill Never Matches the Estimate
Cloud pricing pages are a selection effect, not a disclosure. Providers surface compute and storage rates because those numbers are competitive and comparable. Egress fees, support tiers, and…
Why 200 Resources Is Where IaC Tools Start to Break
At 200 resources, the architectural assumptions baked into every IaC tool become load-bearing walls, and some of those walls crack.
The Alert-Only Trap: Why Notifications Aren't Enough
Alerting is not remediation. That gap between "alert fired" and "system restored" is where reliability erodes and costs accumulate.
The Convergence of Prompt Engineering and DevOps
Prompt engineering entered DevOps not as an experiment but as a pressure valve: teams shipping faster than their tooling could support needed a way to extract precise, repeatable outputs from AI…
The GUI Trap: Why Developers Keep Reaching for the Terminal
GUI tools for developer workflows carry a hidden tax: every click, every modal, every context switch compounds into lost focus that terminal-native engineers refuse to pay.
Why Most Teams Ship Before They're Ready
The pipeline itself is not the risk. The risk is the gap between what the pipeline assumes is true and what is actually true in the environment it deploys into.
The Visibility Problem in Cloud Spending
Cloud bills grow faster than the teams responsible for paying them, and the gap between what you spend and what you understand is where waste compounds silently.
The Pricing Page Illusion: Why Your Cloud Bill Never Matches the Estimate
The pricing page is a cost floor, not a cost forecast. AWS, Azure, and GCP publish per-unit rates for compute, storage, and managed services. Those rates are accurate. The problem is that they…
The Pricing Page Illusion: Why Your Cloud Bill Never Matches the Estimate
Cloud provider pricing pages are built to sell compute and storage, not to reveal what your workload actually costs in production. The headline numbers, virtual machine rates, object storage per GB,…
Why Kubernetes Bills Spiral Before Teams Notice
Kubernetes cost overruns compound in silence because the billing signal arrives weeks after the spending decision. A developer sets a memory request too high on a Tuesday. The scheduler honors that…
The License Change That Split the Terraform Community
HashiCorp's August 2023 switch from the Mozilla Public License 2.0 to the Business Source License 1.1 drew a hard line between commercial and community use of Terraform, and that line fractured a…

One post a week. Sundays. No "10 ways to think about cloud" listicles, just the engineering and FinOps notes we'd want to read.
