- EMR Console → Cluster → Instance configuration. Confirm whether the cluster uses Instance Groups or Instance Fleets.
- If Instance Groups: convert (or recreate as) Instance Fleets. Required for multi-instance-type Spot.
- Modify the Task Instance Fleet to use Spot capacity with multiple instance types (same family, mixed sizes).
- Set ProvisioningSpecifications: SpotSpecification timeout + On-Demand fallback.
- Leave Core + Master instance groups On-Demand. Spot on those types risks HDFS data loss and cluster failure.
