- Confirm the candidate instance family is stable for the next 1-3 years (no planned migration / refactor).
- Decide RI flavour: Standard (deepest discount, locked family), Convertible (smaller discount, can exchange), or skip and buy a Compute Savings Plan instead.
- EC2 → Reserved Instances → Purchase → match instance type, region, AZ scope, term.
- Within 24h verify the RI is Active and tracking against this instance in Reservations.
