- Note the reservation expiry date in Reservations → the resource.
- Before expiry, do NOT renew the reservation.
- Recreate the workload as Spot: Virtual machines → Create → Azure Spot instance = Yes.
- Set Eviction policy = Deallocate (preserves disks on eviction; data survives across restarts).
- Set Eviction type = Capacity only and Max price = -1 (pay up to on-demand, accept current Spot rate).
- Layer a VMSS with mixed Spot + on-demand base if the workload needs an always-on floor.
