DynamoDB Read-Heavy Table, Consider DAX
Each strongly-consistent read consumes capacity units; DAX serves repeated reads from cache and takes that load off the table entirely.

Found, explained, handed over.
Findings with a dollar figure attached, idle, oversized, orphaned, unscheduled and undiscounted spend.
Detect
ZopNight checks this automatically across AWS, with read-only access to the account.
Explain
Every finding says exactly what to change: Add a DAX cache to the DynamoDB table. Where the saving can be proven it is priced; where it cannot, the finding says so.
Fix
The finding opens with the fix already written out, step by step, so it is one ticket, not an investigation.
- Applies to
- DynamoDB Tables on AWS
- The fix, by hand
- Confirm the read-to-write ratio in CloudWatch (ConsumedReadCapacityUnits ≫ WriteCapacityUnits).
- Open DynamoDB → DAX → Create cluster. Pick a supported node type (e.g. dax.r5.large or current-gen dax.r6g).
- Place the DAX cluster in the same VPC as your app + a security group that allows DAX port (8111 / 9111 for TLS).
- Update applications to use the DAX SDK client (boto3.dax / aws-sdk-java DAX endpoint).
- Verify cache hit ratio in CloudWatch → DAX metrics.
These are the steps the finding carries in the product.
