- Confirm read/write traffic is steady in CloudWatch. ConsumedReadCapacityUnits / ConsumedWriteCapacityUnits have low variability over the last 30 days.
- Open DynamoDB → Tables → select → Additional settings → Read/write capacity.
- Change capacity mode from On-demand (PAY_PER_REQUEST) to Provisioned. Steady traffic is materially cheaper on Provisioned than on on-demand.
- Enable Auto Scaling with a 70% target utilisation and set min/max to the observed range.
- Apply (online; no table lock) and monitor ThrottledRequests for 48h, raising the ceiling if throttles appear.
