- Secrets Manager Console → select the resource → check LastAccessedDate.
- CloudTrail → filter eventName=GetSecretValue, resourceName=this secret, 90-day window. Confirm zero hits.
- Grep your IaC repos and runtime envs for the secret name / ARN.
- Actions → Delete secret → set recovery window 7 to 30 days (default 30 is safest).
- Monitor app error logs for the full recovery window; cancel deletion if anything breaks.
