- VPC → Internet Gateways → select the resource → confirm State = Detached.
- Check via Tag or Description whether the IGW was kept on purpose (e.g. for a future migration).
- VPC → Route Tables → search for routes targeting this IGW id; clean any stale entries.
- Internet Gateways → Actions → Delete.
