  1. S3 → bucket the resource → Metrics → Storage Lens to inventory object age + access patterns.
  2. For unpredictable / mixed access: Management → Lifecycle rules → Create rule → Transitions → Move to S3 Intelligent-Tiering (after 0 days, bucket-wide). IT auto-shifts between Frequent / Infrequent / Archive Instant.
  3. Note: IT has a per-object monitoring fee that only pays off above ~128 KB. Exclude small objects via filter if your workload has many tiny files.
  4. Verify cost composition in Cost Explorer S3 breakdown after one full month.
