Orphaned Azure Snapshot
The snapshot is billed for the data it holds after the disk it came from is gone, and restoring it is a manual step nobody has taken.

Azure
Found, explained, handed over.
Findings with a dollar figure attached, idle, oversized, orphaned, unscheduled and undiscounted spend.
Detect
ZopNight checks this automatically across Azure, with read-only access to the account.
Explain
Every finding says exactly what to change: Delete orphaned snapshots. Where the saving can be proven it is priced; where it cannot, the finding says so.
Fix
The finding opens with the fix already written out, step by step, so it is one ticket, not an investigation.
- Applies to
- Orphan Azure Snapshots on Azure
- The fix, by hand
- Confirm the source disks have been deleted and the data is no longer needed.
- If data may be required, create a new managed disk from the snapshot first.
- Go to Azure Portal → Snapshots → filter by region → Select → Delete.
- Verify no restore points or images depend on these snapshots.
These are the steps the finding carries in the product.
