- Confirm the workload is ARM64-compatible. Java, Python, Node.js, Go, .NET 6+ generally are; native C/C++ binaries and proprietary agents need rebuilding.
- Pick the Graviton target: m7g / c7g / r7g (Graviton3, current default); m6g / c6g / r6g are still supported but two generations old.
- Test on a staging instance: launch a Graviton equivalent, run integration / load tests, watch CloudWatch for regressions.
- EC2 → select the resource → Stop → Actions → Instance settings → Change instance type → pick the Graviton SKU → Start.
- Monitor CPU + p95/p99 latency in CloudWatch for 48h before declaring stable.
- If in an ASG, update the launch template version + refresh the ASG rather than mutating the live instance directly.
