Explain
Every finding says exactly what to change: Enable master authorized networks on GKE cluster.
Fix
The finding opens with the fix already written out, step by step, so it is one ticket, not an investigation.
- Applies to
- GKE Clusters on Google Cloud
- The fix, by hand
- Confirm the control-plane endpoint is currently unrestricted: gcloud container clusters describe ‹name› --location=‹loc› --format='value(masterAuthorizedNetworksConfig.enabled)'.
- Enable Master Authorized Networks and restrict access to your known admin / CI CIDR blocks: gcloud container clusters update ‹name› --location=‹loc› --enable-master-authorized-networks --master-authorized-networks=‹CIDR1›,‹CIDR2›.
- Consider making the control-plane endpoint private as well: add --enable-private-endpoint (requires a private cluster).
- Verify access still works from an allowed network: gcloud container clusters get-credentials ‹name› --location=‹loc› then kubectl get nodes.
- Audit the control-plane / API-server access logs for unexpected source IPs before and after the change.
These are the steps the finding carries in the product.
