The fix, by hand
  1. Confirm the workload tolerates Spot interruption (2-minute warning): stateless, containerised, or checkpointed batch.
  2. Build an Auto Scaling Group with a mixed instances policy, or an EC2 Fleet (type=instant), targeting Spot allocation.
  3. Add 3-5 instance types across sizes to widen the Spot capacity pool (capacity-optimized allocation strategy).
  4. Optionally keep an On-Demand base via the OnDemandBaseCapacity setting.
  5. Wire SQS / a sidecar to listen for Spot interruption notices and drain gracefully.
  6. Once the new pool is stable, terminate the standalone on-demand instance the resource.
