EC2 HPC Instance Without Placement Group
Instances are spread across the network, so tightly coupled jobs pay exactly the latency this hardware was bought to avoid.

Explain
Every finding says exactly what to change: Put the HPC instance in a placement group.
Fix
The finding opens with the fix already written out, step by step, so it is one ticket, not an investigation.
- Applies to
- EC2 Instances on AWS
- The fix, by hand
- Confirm the workload genuinely benefits from a Cluster placement group: tight HPC / low-latency inter-node traffic. Most general workloads do NOT.
- EC2 → Placement groups → Create placement group → Strategy = cluster → Name it.
- Stop the resource (placement groups can only be set on a stopped instance).
- Actions → Instance settings → Modify instance placement → select the new group → Save.
- Start the instance and verify inter-node bandwidth via iperf3 or your workload's own latency probe.
- Note: cluster placement groups require all members to be the same instance type; partition / spread groups have different trade-offs.
These are the steps the finding carries in the product.
