The fix, by hand
  1. Function App → the resource → Settings → Environment variables (formerly the Configuration blade, renamed in the 2024 portal refresh).
  2. Note current FUNCTIONS_EXTENSION_VERSION and the language stack (Node, Python, .NET, etc.).
  3. Cross-check the supported runtime matrix at learn.microsoft.com. Drop runtimes that are out of support.
  4. Update FUNCTIONS_EXTENSION_VERSION and the language version setting; redeploy the function package built against the new runtime.
  5. Run a smoke test against each trigger; review Application Insights for new exceptions for at least one full traffic cycle.
  6. Use deployment slots for production functions to allow a clean revert if the upgrade misbehaves.
