The fix, by hand on Azure
  1. Confirm the resource is non-production or interruption-tolerant (checkpointing, fast restart, no single-replica statefulness).
  2. Spot priority cannot be added to an existing VM. Plan a recreate.
  3. Snapshot the OS + data disks; export the ARM template.
  4. Create a new VM with Azure Spot instance = Yes, Eviction policy = Deallocate, Max price = -1.
  5. Reattach the snapshots (or restore from them) and run application smoke tests.
  6. Cut traffic / DNS over; delete the original on-demand VM once verified.
