  1. Open Snowsight → Admin → Billing and Cost Management → confirm the current edition (Enterprise / Business Critical / VPS).
  2. Inventory edition-gated features actually in use. Extended Time Travel (over 1 day), customer-managed keys (CMK), HIPAA/PCI compliance attestations.
  3. If none are used and compliance allows, evaluate downgrade with security/compliance sign-off.
  4. Downgrade is a paperwork-and-risk operation. A large saving, but a large blast radius; never downgrade without explicit security review.
  5. Snowflake credit rate drops across ALL compute on lower editions. Savings compound.
