- The fix, by hand
- CloudWatch → FSx → IOPS + Throughput metrics on the resource over 30 days. Capture p95.
- If IOPS is well below the file-system's provisioned baseline, the cost-optimal change is SSD → HDD (Windows + Lustre support HDD; OpenZFS / NetApp ONTAP do not).
- Create a new HDD-backed file system in the same VPC / subnet.
- Use AWS DataSync (or rsync for Lustre) to copy data; cut clients over by updating mount target DNS.
- Verify performance against application requirements for 7 days before deleting the original.
- For dormant data: switch to FSx Intelligent Tiering or move to S3 + Mountpoint for S3 if the workload allows.
