- EC2 → Snapshots → the resource → confirm last referenced timestamp + whether any AMI / volume restore points to it recently.
- Verify the snapshot is not the only restore point for a critical volume. Check tags / description for the source volume / instance.
- If retention is required but quick-restore is not: Actions → Archive snapshot. Note: archive has a 90-day minimum and restore takes 24-72h.
- If genuinely unused: Actions → Delete.
- Snapshots are charged on delta storage; archive is a flat per-GB rate.
