Event Readiness: Pre-Scale Before a Planned Traffic Spike

The problem it solves

Reactive autoscaling waits for a metric to cross a threshold, then adds capacity. For a product launch, a sale or a load test on a known date, that lag is the part that hurts. Event readiness lets you book the capacity in advance and hand it back afterwards.

Building an event

A wizard walks through the plan:

1. Pick the scaling targets. AWS Auto Scaling groups, AWS ECS services, GCP managed instance groups and Azure VM scale sets, through their autoscaler policies.
2. Size it. Give a multiplier on today’s baseline or an expected request volume, and ZopNight computes scaled minimum, maximum and desired capacity for each target. An admin can override any figure before saving.
3. Check readiness. A readiness score combines current capacity, how the autoscaler policies are set, and recent activity-log signal, with a verdict per target.
4. Preview the cost. The estimate is labelled as an estimate, and it is recomputed live as you edit the draft.

Databases can be attached as monitor-only targets. ZopNight shows sizing guidance for them, based on connection-pool math, headroom and a suggested tier, but never changes a database. Tier changes and replicas stay with your DBA team.

What runs on the day

Scaling is written into each cloud’s own scheduled-action mechanism rather than driven by polling. An event moves through draft, scheduling, scheduled, scaling up, active, scaling down and completed, and can be cancelled. Two schedule requests for the same event are rejected rather than raced.

Before anything changes, the original minimum, maximum and desired values are snapshotted. When the event completes or is cancelled, those values are restored. Start, end and failure notifications go to your channels, and every target change is written to the audit log.

Where it sits with autoscaling

Event readiness is built on the same policies as autoscaler tuning, so a target needs an autoscaler policy to be scalable.
