Cloud Regions in India: AWS, Google Cloud and Azure
Regions, time zones and data protection law for cloud teams in India.
India has eight in-country regions across the three providers: AWS in Mumbai (ap-south-1) and Hyderabad (ap-south-2), Google Cloud in Mumbai (asia-south1) and Delhi (asia-south2), and four Azure regions in Pune, Chennai, Mumbai and Hyderabad.
Cloud regions in India
| Provider | Region | Location |
|---|---|---|
| AWS | ap-south-1 | Mumbai |
| AWS | ap-south-2 | Hyderabad |
| Google Cloud | asia-south1 | Mumbai |
| Google Cloud | asia-south2 | Delhi |
| Azure | centralindia | Pune |
| Azure | southindia | Chennai |
| Azure | westindia | Mumbai |
| Azure | indiasouthcentral | Hyderabad |
AWS ap-south-2 (Hyderabad) is an opt-in region, so it must be enabled on an account before use. Mumbai has its own page because all three providers run a region there.
Scheduling on local time
The whole country runs on one zone, Asia/Kolkata, with no daylight saving time. That makes Indian schedules simple on their own, but it creates a moving offset with US and European teams, who shift their clocks twice a year. If your team supports US customers late into the evening, check actual usage before choosing a stop time.
Time zones: Asia/Kolkata. Currency: INR.
Data protection law
The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (No. 22 of 2023) is India’s data protection law. Sector regulators can add their own rules, so check yours.
