Cloud Regions for Teams in Colombia: Where to Host
Regions, time zones and data protection law for cloud teams in Colombia.
AWS, Google Cloud and Azure have no Colombian region, so any Colombian workload on those clouds is hosted abroad, whether in Mexico, the United States or Brazil.
Cloud regions in Colombia
| Provider | Region | Location |
|---|---|---|
| AWS | none | none |
| Google Cloud | none | none |
| Azure | none | none |
The closest regions on the map are in Mexico (AWS mx-central-1, Google Cloud northamerica-south1, Azure mexicocentral), the US East Coast, and Sao Paulo. Each of them means hosting outside the country.
Scheduling on local time
The whole country uses America/Bogota, which does not observe daylight saving time. That puts Bogota on the same clock as US Eastern time in winter and an hour behind it in summer, a detail that matters if your dev environments sit in a US East region but your team works Bogota hours.
Time zones: America/Bogota. Currency: COP.
Data protection law
Personal data is governed by Ley Estatutaria 1581 de 2012. Because no in-country region exists, hosting for Colombian workloads is by definition outside Colombia, which makes the law’s rules on international transfers the ones to review with counsel.
