Regions, time zones and data protection law for cloud teams in Nigeria.

Nigeria has no region from AWS, Google Cloud or Azure. Nigerian workloads on those clouds run in another country, with South Africa and Europe the nearest options.

## Cloud regions in Nigeria

| Provider | Region | Location |
|---|---|---|
| AWS | none | none |
| Google Cloud | none | none |
| Azure | none | none |

On the map, the closest options are the South African regions (Cape Town and Johannesburg) and southern Europe. None of them is in Nigeria.

## Scheduling on local time

Nigeria uses Africa/Lagos, with no daylight saving time. That is the same clock as Central European winter time, so it drifts an hour against Europe each summer.

Time zones: `Africa/Lagos`. Currency: NGN.

## Data protection law

The Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 governs personal data and is overseen by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission. Because hosting for Nigerian workloads is outside Nigeria, its rules on cross-border transfers are the ones to review with counsel.
